Vivianite was named in 1817 for the English mineralogist, J. G. Vivian. Vivianite is a hydrated iron phosphate Fe3 (PO4)2 8H2O which forms blade-like tabular masses. This sample comes from Bolivia where it is associated with pyrite at Potosi mining district. It is formed as secondary alternation product of other metallic deposits.
