  Vivianite Locality: Bolivia
Deposite Name: Petosi Mining District
Vivianite - # 503: Click for larger image     Vivianite was named in 1817 for the English mineralogist, J. G. Vivian. Vivianite is a hydrated iron phosphate Fe3 (PO4)2 8H2O which forms blade-like tabular masses. This sample comes from Bolivia where it is associated with pyrite at Potosi mining district. It is formed as secondary alternation product of other metallic deposits. It is used as dye and sometimes as precious stone.
