  Rutilated Quartz Locality: Brazil
Deposite Name: N/A
Rutilated Quartz - #508: Click for larger image     Rutilated Quartz - The name, quartz, apparently came from Saxon word, querkluftertz, (Dana, 1997). In this specimen rutile in needle form projects and intergrows in quartz. One such inclusion of rutile makes a 6-ray star of rutile in the crystal. This specimen is from Brazil and is the smoky quartz variety of quartz. Quartz has the composition SiO2 and is a common mineral found in many localities. Smoky quartz is mostly used as gemstone.
